Giant Sitka Spruce destined to be custom tables

One of the special projects we are working on at Smith and Vallee Woodworks is a custom boardroom table that will be comprised of 3 -7’ tables, 21’ total length. This project, for Sealaska Corporation, involves many steps, after milling, the next step is kiln drying to reduce the moisture content of the slabs.

This sustainably harvested Sitka Spruce was recently harvested in SE Alaska. An addition for the kiln had to be custom made to accommodate this behemoth tree.

Pieter is setting spacers to make sure the slabs have enough room to circulate air evenly while in the kiln.
